Cats Evolution

The home cat is a member of the Felidae, a own family that had a commonplace ancestor approximately 10–15 million years ago. The genus Felis diverged from the Felidae round 6–7 million years ago.[39] consequences of phylogenetic research confirm that the wild Felis species advanced thru sympatric or parapatric speciation, while the home cat developed via synthetic selection.

The domesticated cat and its closest wild ancestor are both diploid organisms that possess 38 chromosomes and roughly 20,000 genes. The leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis) became tamed independently in China around 5500 BC. This line of partly domesticated cats leaves no hint within the home cat populations of nowadays.
